The Victorian World:
Canada

Home > The Victorian World > The Colonies > Canada

To the Victorian Brit considering emigrating to a new world, Canada was the "Wild West." It offered a great deal of opportunity to the colonist, but much of that opportunity was found in desolate stretches far from any form of civilization. Canada had its great forests and its vast prairies, its long and cold winters, and its own native tribes, making it a challenge to the colonist. From the American perspective, Canada was sort of a "last frontier" on the border, a great place for the rugged outdoorsman to go hunting and fishing, but not exactly a top tourist destination.
