He was among the main protagonists of the Italian Risorgimento and a close friend and supporter of Giuseppe Mazzini and Giuseppe Garibaldi, and one of the architects of the unification of Italy in 1860. - Andrzej Tadeusz Bonawentura Kosciuszko (1746-1817) was a Polish–Lithuanian military engineer and a military leader who became a national hero in Poland, Lithuania, Belarus, and the United States. On learning of the American Revolution, Kosciuszko, sympathetic to the American cause and an advocate of human rights, sailed for America.
