Victorian Recipes:
Recipes from Around the World

Home > Victorian Recipes > More Victorian Cookery... > Recipes from Around the World

British cooks were not averse to bringing the tastes of the Continent into their kitchens. Germanic recipes -- recipes from Germany, Austria and Switzerland -- seemed to be the most popular, followed by French recipes and techniques. Articles featuring Italian or Spanish recipes are far less common; perhaps these flavors were a bit too exotic for British palates. Recipes from specific regions within the British Isles were also considered sufficiently different to be virtually "foreign." Other sources of international recipes included Britain's colonies.
