Our Victorian Bookstore:
Victorian Compilations & Reprints

Our unique Victorian compilations bring together, for the very first time, hundreds of fascinating articles from a wide range of Victorian periodicals. These books bring you a rare glimpse of the Victorian world - including dozens of wonderful woodcuts and lithographs. Every compilation is painstakingly edited for crisp, readable clarity from our own scans (in other words, we don't just download books off Archive.org and repackage them for profit). But don't take our word for it - you can now preview most or all of each book in our collection with our online "flipbook" feature!

Time for Tea
What's more Victorian than tea? Today, hotels offer "authentic" Victorian teas at authentically outrageous prices. So why not prepare your own? This volume is jam-packed (pun intended) with over 600 tempting recipes: cakes, biscuits, scones, pies, tarts, puddings, custards, fruit dishes, savories and more. And while I used the word "decadent" in the title, the truth is that these Victorian treats are a lot healthier than you might imagine - made from scratch with all-natural ingredients. Go ahead - delight your friends and family with a genuine Victorian tea. It might just become a tradition! Find Out More...

Bits About Animals: A Treasury of Victorian Animal Anecdotes
When you think of pets, do you think of "cats and dogs"? Maybe birds and a hamster? If so, this delightful volume will broaden your horizons! Here, you'll encounter a host of rare and wonderful Victorian pets - including pigs, rats, jackdaws, snakes, a mongoose, and even a remarkable stag beetle! And, of course, quite a few wonderful cats and dogs - including a train-traveling pooch. Oh, and did I mention elephants? This treasury of true tales will delight any animal lover, young or old! Needlecrafts from a Victorian Workbasket
Here's a collection for our creative readers (which, I suspect, is most of you!). Compiled from a Girl's Own Paper column that ran in the 1880's and 1890's, this marvelous collection brings you ideas for embroidery, knitting, crochet, quilting, and a host of other needle arts. The illustrations are the true treasure, though - these wonderful images are bound to inspire your creativity, even if you don't happen to have an immediate need for a pianoforte cover or a knitted basket for eggs! A Victorian Christmas Treasury I & II
These wonderful volumes are like a gigantic Christmas gift, bursting with delightful surprises. The Laugh-Out-Loud Victorian Poetry Collection
You won't find these gems in some academic collection of "meaningful" poetry. These poems were written for, and by, people like us - people who struggle with the bills, the family, the housework, and all the little quirks of life. Here you'll find over 250 sparkling gems of Victorian poetry in six charming volumes: Animal Antics, Poems for Writers & Book-Lovers, Wit & Whimsy, Family Frolics, Of Romance & Bluestockings, and Seasons, Santas & Country Life. Get ready to guffaw! (That's Victorian for "LOL.") Find Out More...

English As She Is Taught (reprint)
I dare you to read this book without laughing out loud. It's a rare collection of Victorian "student bloopers," covering the full spectrum of Victorian education from English to science. You'll discover aspects of history you never knew, such as the true meaning of "gorilla" warfare, and the importance of Julius Caesar's telegram. Meet Chaucer, the famous English potter, and Beowulf, a little-known author of Scripture. Our edition includes Mark Twain's delightful Century Magazine review of the original volume, which also offers some pointed commentary of the teaching methods of the 19th century. Find Out More...

Graveyard Humor: Quaint and Curious Inscriptions and Epitaphs (reprint)
And here's another volume designed to make you laugh out loud. You might think death is no laughing matter - but the folks who came up with these epitaphs thought differently! Collected from tombstones from England, Europe and America, these "last words" were definitely intended to be someone's last laugh! You'll find some truly dreadful puns, wordplays on the dear departed's name, curious accounts of how the deceased came to be that way, and some not always mournful reminiscences of those left behind. A Word About Quality... If you love Victorian books, you've probably encountered some of the ghastly print-on-demand reprints on the market today. These books are generally scavenged from free sources like Archive.org or Google Books, and published "as is" - meaning, in many cases, in a nearly unreadable condition. Our books aren't like that. First, we don't scavenge - all our anthologies come from our personal collection of scanned books and periodicals. I literally hand-edit every page of every anthology in our collection, ensuring that each book is beautiful, readable, and absolutely worthy of adding to your collection. In the case of the two reprints that we offer, these have been OCR'd, proofed and reformatted, so that each book is not only easy to read but also more economical than a straight reprint of the original. In short, these collections give you a reading experience that's as close to the original (and as pleasurable) as I can make it!
