Biography: Noteworthy Victorians

Victorian magazines were just as interested in the personal lives of noteworthy figures as magazines today, with some key differences... One is far more likely, for instance, to be offered a detailed tour of a notable personage's study or drawing room than an intimate look into the doings of his or her bedroom.

Victorian, Contemporary and History Royalty
Queen Victoria, her family and household; contemporary royalty in other parts of the world; royal palaces and residences; historic British royalty.

Interesting, Noteworthy, and Every-Day Folks
Achievers, inventors, relatives of the rich and famous, and notable eccentrics.

Heroes, Heroines and Adventurers
"Ordinary" people recognized for extraordinary deeds of valor and heroism.

Famous Travelers
Eminent Victorial travelers (especially women), adventurers, and explorers.

Models of Benevolence
Victorians who made a difference in the world, including missionaries, nurses, and social activists.

The Literary Set
Biographical sketches of Victorian writers, including well known authors and those not so well remembered today.

People in the Arts
Artists, sculptors, photographers and more.

Music and the Performing Arts
Musicians, composers, singers and performing artists.

Noteworthy Americans
Significant Americans of the Victorian period.

Historic Figures of the Past
