Health, Medicine & Beauty

One doesn't tend to think of Victorian times as a bright spot in medical history. It's surprising, therefore, to see the strong emphasis on common-sense natural health care that appears in the columns of "Medicus," health writer for The Girl's Own Paper. Diet, exercise, fresh air and a positive attitude were considered just as vital to good health (and good looks) in the 1880's as today. (And one presumes that the flourishing trade in quack medicines demonstrates how many people, just like today, much preferred the quick fix to common sense.)
