Turn to Century Magazine if you're interested in the culture, politics, architecture and history of Victorian America! It began as Scribner's and became The Century Illustrated Monthly Magazine in 1881. Century is noted for serializations of such works as The Life of Abraham Lincoln and George Kennan's Siberia and the Exile System - but it is perhaps most famous for its articles on The Battles and Leaders of the Civil War, which the company later published as a book. In these issues you'll also find short fiction and serial novels by the top writers of the day, including Mark Twain, Frances Hodgson Burnett, and many others.
The Century ran from 1881 to 1930. Our collection thus far runs from 1881-1898. Volumes are semi-annual; volumes marked "A" run from November to April, and those marked "B" run from May to October. Each volume averages over 950 pages. Individual volumes are available for download for $5 each - or save nearly 80% by ordering the complete 34-volume collection on two DVDs!
Please don't try to download these to a tablet or cell phone. These PDF files average 250-275MB. If ordering via phone or tablet, save or forward your confirmation e-mail with your download links so that you can save your magazine(s) to a computer or laptop.
We're planning a major relaunch of VictorianVoices.net in early 2018. At that time, you'll be able to access hundreds of articles from these issues on the site itself and learn more about each volume. To be notified of our relaunch, please sign up for our newsletter.
