Victorian Archaeology

Archaeology was a Victorian enthusiasm -- sometimes conducted with more enthusiasm than what would, today, be considered "method." There were many journals devoted to archaeological discoveries and "antiquities," and many antiquarian societies that met to discuss members' recent "finds." Discoveries in Egypt fascinated readers at home, while local discoveries kept the antiquarian journals filled with the latest finds and theories.
